McElhenney had previously teased on social media that a Abbott/It’s always sunny the crossover would make sense, given that both shows are set in Philadelphia.
Brunson previously teased on the Awards Circuit Podcast that there was something in the works for a big crossover happening, and when it was suggested that it was It’s always sunnyshe didn’t deny it.
He said: “Deals are done. I want you to know. I will say I’m really excited about it. You want to find fun ways to shake things up without abandoning what you’ve built. And I’m excited for this crossover which I won’t name with the other project.
“I’m excited to shake things up like this. I love TV, everyone knows that, but I love TV moments and I miss those great TV moments. I remember how exciting they were. All I can do with Abbott to help keep that culture of funny TV alive, I will. So I think it’s going to be fun TV.”
The crossover was also previously teased at this year’s Comic-Con and it’s great to see that this is actually happening. This should be really fun! I’m excited to see what kind of crazy story comes out of this crossover!
