Actor Sean Astin has been a favorite among geeky fans for decades, having starred in major films such as The GooniesAND The Lord of the Rings trilogy, then playing a hero in the series Stranger things.
He’s a welcome addition to any cast and now the actor is making his Broadway debut in the revival of Elf the musicalin which he will play Santa Claus.
Astin will star opposite Gray Henson (Bad, shelled girls) who will play Buddy the Elf.
Elf The Musicalwhich returns to Broadway for the first time in more than a decade, begins previews at the Marquis Theater on Saturday, November 9, with an official opening on Sunday, November 17. The limited commitment will last until Saturday, January 4, 2025.
The return to Broadway follows two record-breaking Christmas seasons in London’s West End in 2022 and 2023. Elfbased on the 2003 film starring Will Ferrell, contains a book by Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The sleepy chaperone, Smash, Boop! The Musical), with songs by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (The prom, the wedding singer).
