One of my favorite sitcoms of all time is Greetings. I love that show and one whose episodes I rewatch often. These characters that filled that series were so damn lovable.
According to Deadline, Big Talk Studios (The outlaws) revealed that they are developing a remake/reimagining of Cheers and that the plan is to move the setting to a pub in the UK.
It is explained that Big Talk has “contacted CBS Studios for the rights to remake the iconic sitcom Greetings30 years after Ted Danson rang the bell for the last orders in America.
Simon Nye (Men who behave badly, the Durrells) is writing the series and will also serve as showrunner if the project makes it to production.
Big talk boss Kenton Allen he said it’s a “great honor” but also a “great challenge” to bring Cheers back in a new way. He added that he “might be crazy” to take on the project, which isn’t hard to argue with.
Adapting this classic American comedy for the UK will be no easy task. I mean, it’ll be interesting to see if the creative team can actually pull this off. They’re remaking one of the greatest sitcoms ever made, and I’m not a fan of that, but if they can actually develop a fun and entertaining series, good for them.
Greetings is set in a cozy Boston bar of the same name. The show revolves around the bar’s colorful staff and regulars, led by Sam Malone, a former baseball player turned bartender and owner.
As the characters form bonds, friendships and romances, their personal lives and comedic misadventures are explored, all in the warm and inviting atmosphere of the bar, where “everyone knows your name.”
