Guillermo del Toro wraps up filming his long-awaited FRANKENSTEIN film

Director Guillermo del Toro has announced that it has finished principal photography on its long-awaited adaptation of Mary Shelly Frankenstein which is set to Netflix.

The director shared the news on X, saying: “Filming ‘F’ – Joy!!!” have been completed.” This has been a project that del Toro has been passionate about for a very long time and I’m really excited to see what his vision for this classic monster story will be.

The story follows Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but selfish scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the destruction of both the creator and his tragic creation.

Del Toro is writing, directing and producing the film and previously said of the project: “It’s a film I’ve wanted to make for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein.

“I had an epiphany, and it’s basically a film that took a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn’t have done 10 years ago. Now I’m brave enough or crazy enough or something, and we’ll deal with it.

The director also explained that he was afraid of making this film: “Frankenstein for me it’s the pinnacle of everything, and part of me wants to make a version of it, part of me held back for more than 25 years before making it happen.

“I dream of being able to do the best Frankenstein never, but then if you make it, you’ve made it. Whether it’s great or not, it’s done. You can’t dream about it anymore. This is a director’s tragedy.

“You can dream about something but once you’ve achieved it, you’ve achieved it. That’s all. You got a 10 or a 6.5 but you were already at the Olympics and were judged.

Producer J. Miles Dale he went on to say that it will be a “deeply emotional” film, and added, “In the last two films, definitely with Alley of nightmares and then with Pinocchiowe dealt with the whole father-son relationship. And Guillermo and I have both lost our fathers in the last few years.

“When you have a strong father figure, it’s an important part of our lives. This version of Frankenstein a lot follows that thematic path. So, I think this is the third film in Guillermo’s father’s trilogy. It’s emotional, and when you read the script, it’s very emotional and, obviously, very iconic.”

Movie stars Oscar Issac as Victor Frankenstein. Mia Goth, Christoph WaltzAND Giacobbe Elordi like The Monster.
