Kirsten Dunst will star alongside Channing Tatum in the true crime thriller ROOFMAN

Kirsten Dunst (Fargo, Civil war) has signed on to star opposite Channing Tatum (21 Salto Strada, Deadpool and Wolverine) in the upcoming true crime thriller Roofman. Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine, I know this is true) directs from a screenplay he collaborated on Metal sound producer Kirt Gunn.

The story is based on the extraordinary true story of “Jeffrey Manchester, an eccentric and charming serial robber who broke into more than 60 McDonald’s overnight through their roofs, then emptied the cash register in the morning after rounding up the staff in freezers.

The former U.S. Army Reserve officer became known as the “Rooftop Robber” or “Roofman” and was known for his gentle demeanor and rarely resorting to violence.

“Convicted and imprisoned in 2000, the courageous criminal escaped prison and then evaded capture by holing up for months in a Toys ‘r Us and Circuit City store in North Carolina. He lived on baby food and rode his bicycle for exercise at the toy store.

After reportedly leaving his fingerprints on a Catch me if you can DVD in electronics store, was recaptured and sent back to prison. The film will focus on Manchester’s months-long odyssey on the run.”

“Dunst plays a Toys ‘R Us employee struggling to make ends meet and provide for her two daughters, Dee and Lindsay.

“She has no idea that Jeffrey is secretly watching her from inside the store and has slowly fallen in love with her. When she meets him, she is fascinated and finds him endearing, and the two form a serious bond until she discovers the truth about him – but even that can’t stop her from caring for him.

This looks like a really fun movie! I listen to tons of true crime podcasts, but I’ve never heard of this story, so I’m intrigued. Plus Dunst and Tatum are awesome, so I know they’ll put on a good show. Stay tuned for updates on the project as it enters production.
