Film Constellation has released the first teaser trailer for the new Charlie Chaplin documentary Chaplin: The Spirit of the Trampdirected by his niece, Carmen Chaplin.
The film offers an intimate portrait of the comic icon from within his family circle. It tells the story of Chaplin’s family “as they embark on a journey into the Roma heritage that helped inspire his infamous and beloved character, The Tramp.”
I have been a fan of Charlie Chaplin since I was a child and have read practically every book about him, watched every film and documentary. He was such an interesting and talented person and led such a wild life. It will be nice to have this new perspective on the legendary director.
This film is the first time the Chaplin family collaborated on a documentary about Charlie, and was narrated by Michael J. Chaplinand contains interviews with Geraldine Chaplin, Victoria Chaplin, Jane Chaplin AND Christopher Chaplin.
Other directors and actors interviewed for the film include Johnny Depp, Emir Kusturica, Tony Gatlif, Stochelo Rosenberg, Lita CabellutAND Farruquito.
The film was written by Carmen Chaplin, Ashim Bhalla, Isaki LacuestaAND Amaya Remírez Garcíawith editing by Giulia Juaniz (Finding Steve McQueen).
The documentary will premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival next month.
