MGM+ Developing Modern ROBIN HOOD Series

MGM+ has greenlit a new drama series inspired by the legendary folklore of Robin HoodThe series will consist of ten episodes and will air in 2025.

The series is a “modern retelling of the classic tale of the outlaw and rebel hero who stole from the rich and gave to the poor, and the epic love story between him and the brave and daring Marian.

“After the Norman invasion of England, Rob, the son of a Saxon forester, and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord, fall in love and work together to fight for justice and freedom.

“As Rob emerges as the leader of a band of outlaw rebels, Marian infiltrates the power at court, as they work together to counter royal corruption and bring peace to the land.”

The series is developed by Jonathan English (Librarians: The Next Chapter); artistic director John Glenn (SEAL Team); and Lionsgate Television. Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures is also an executive producer. Glenn and English are writing the screenplay.

Michael Wright, head of MGM+, said in a statement: “We call MGM+ television for movie lovers, and English and Glenn’s Robin Hood epitomizes our brand promise.

“This is a fresh take on the classic tale of the rogue outlaw hero who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. It’s a thrilling, intelligent, sweeping and romantic adventure that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth and a deeper focus on Rob and Marian’s relationship to the beloved story.”

English and Glenn added: “Robin Hood is a global brand and a story that we have both been obsessed with since our youth. We are truly honored to have partnered with MGM+, Lionsgate and Todd to bring this classic story back to life.”

I can’t say I have any interest in seeing this story told again, but let’s see if the series turns out well.
