David Harbour Describes Reading the Script for the Finale of STRANGER THINGS: “The Amount of Crying…”

Fans are eagerly awaiting the final season of Stranger things to arrive on Netflix. After the long wait, and what appears to be a two-year gap between seasons four and five, we’re ready to see how this story and its beloved characters will conclude.

Season 4 saw the character Hopper separated from Eleven, Joyce, and the rest of the crew as he resisted the Russian prison, eventually escaping. Now he is reunited with everyone, but they have a formidable enemy and a battle ahead of them.

actor Hopper David Port He recently sat down with ComicBook to talk about the final season, opening with the following line: “No, the interesting thing is… there were cameras there, but we didn’t do it for the publicists or the Instagram people.

“There was something intimate about the way they structured it and I hope you don’t notice it too much, because there was something profound about the sense that we are a family.

“There’s the deeper level, it’s about us as individuals who have been working together for nine years since they were kids, and that really came through. There was a real deep honesty and heartbreak and a bittersweet quality to it all.”

She went on to discuss the challenges of season four, particularly the toll the pandemic has had on the cast: “[Season 4] It’s been a challenging season for a number of reasons. The biggest one has been COVID and the ripples it’s brought to our industry, because we’re an industry of intimacy. I mean, we’re close.

“We are for humanity. We are for commitment and we had masks and visors and we were very afraid of each other. So it was really hard. I also had to do a lot of weird things to lose weight, it was really hard.

“The thing about being alone was kind of OK, because I had to do it. I mean, we’ve been together for a long time, it’s like a family, sometimes you need a vacation. So I think in a way it was fun, and I had guys like Tom (Wlaschiha) and it was a nice storyline. So I enjoyed it.”

In season five, the cast is back together in Hawkins, Indiana, to fight together against the forces of Vecna ​​and the Upside Down. This final go-round is a bit of an odd one for Harbour, though, because it’s easy to see how much he’s changed since production on season one began nearly a decade ago.

“Going back to the original crew for this final season was kind of crazy because we’ve come this far and it’s not the show that we started in Season 1. I think it’s a crazy experience for all of us. I mean, those kids were 11 when we started, 12. Now they’re 20 and they’re shaving and they’re not kids anymore.

“Finn (Wolfhard) just directed a movie. I think to bring it all back to where it started… We just read, we just read the last episode and the amount of crying… like the episode was really beautiful. But there’s also a deeper level, this was actually their childhood.

“They were 11 years old, and they grew up and fought this monster. And I’ve never seen so much heavy, heavy crying from teenagers or young adults in my life.”

I’m sure this was a tough chapter for these young actors to close. They grew up together, became famous together, and did something great together. I can’t wait to see how this story ends. Stay tuned for more as the final season approaches.
