New STAR WARS: SKELETON CREW Photos and Details on How the Series Will Play with Space Pirates

We have a couple of new photos to share with you for the upcoming Lucasfilm series Star Wars: Skeletal CrewOne of these features space pirates and the other includes Judas Law like Jod Na Nawood.

Skeleton Crew follows the journey of four boys “who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, then become lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy, crossing paths with characters like Jod Na Nawood, the mysterious character played by Law.

“Finding their way home and encountering unlikely allies and enemies will be an adventure bigger than they ever imagined.”

During their adventure they will encounter Space Pirates and, during an interview with EW, co-creator Christopher Ford talked about the pirate aspect of the series.

Ford explained, “With the era we’re in, we’re kind of playing with that lawless thing. The Empire is gone, and so we’re playing with a part of the galaxy that has a resurgence of piracy.”

He continues, “There’s a lot of talk about pirates in Star Wars. People would call Han Solo a pirate and he’d be like, ‘How dare you?’ And we’ve seen some great pirates in the animated series.

“So this was a thing where both of us [executive producers] Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau were really excited to do more pirate stuff.”

Jon Watts also mentioned Monkey Island, from Lucasfilm Games in the early 90s. The Secret of Monkey Island centers on a hapless and very lovable wannabe pirate named Guybrush Threepwood. Set in the Caribbean, the game starts with three challenges from a band of pirates to prove your worth.

Watts said: “I’m also a big fan of Monkey Island. That’s a Lucas classic, too. So somewhere between the Pirates of Star Wars and the Pirates of Monkey Island. I think we’ve found our sweet spot.”

In the photo above, pirate characters include Jaleel White like Gunter, an annoying character that Star Wars fans might recognize: the unpleasant Vane (Marty Matulis), who gave Din Djarin and Greef Karga a run for their money in The Mandalorian.

To Gunter’s right is Brutus (voiced by Fred Tatasciore and performed by the performance artist Stephan Oyoung), Pax (performance artist: Mike Estes), and Chaelt (Orange is the new black‘S Dale Soules).

I love that this series will explore the outer reaches of the Star Wars universe. Watts continued, “The great thing about working at Lucasfilm is that they let you know if you’ve crossed the line. Dave Filoni is our doorman.”

He continued on about Filoni, saying, “He’s actually a great hockey player, but he’s also a figurative goalie. We come up with ideas of things that we like, and then he’ll say, ‘Actually, maybe this is it.’ Or, ‘Oh, we’ve done something like this somewhere else.’

“And you always end up with a bunch of other Star Wars episodes to watch and things to read, which is nice. You feel like you can explore things creatively and safely without making some huge canonical mistake.”

Ford added: “And he gets both sides because he did that. [mentoring under] George Lucas. So he comes up with this thing where he’s like, “I want to create a whole new kind of Jedi,” and then someone says, “Okay, wait. A lot of people have thought of this. Let’s do it right.” And that’s so helpful.

The series also features the participation of Ravi Cabot Conyers, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy SmithAND Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Nick’s Frost He also plays a droid in the series.

The episodes of the show will be directed by Bryce Dallas Howard, The Daniels, Davide Abbassa, Jake SchreierAND by Lee Isaac Chung. The MandalorianS Mr. Jon Favreau AND Dave Filoni will be executive producer.
