Krypto’s Involvement in James Gunn’s SUPERMAN Told by Comic Book Writer

Last year it was confirmed that Clark Kent’s dog, Krypto, would be part of James Gunn’S SupermanConfirmation came from an interview in which it was suggested that Chris Pratt he could play Superdog in the next film.

Pratt responded on the spot, saying, “It looks like there’s going to be a character named Krypto in Superman. That’s breaking news,” Gunn later confirmed, “I guess that’s a scoop.”

Now, we have a little reminder and a preview that Krypto will indeed appear in the movie. The update comes from the comic book writer Mark Waid while guesting on the podcast Capes and Lunatics.

He said: “I like Gunn’s reverential approach in general to this kind of thing, and you know, reverential without taking it too seriously. I mean, there’s a dog in the movie, a super-powered dog with heat vision.”

It doesn’t surprise me that Gunn included Krypto in his Superman movie. Including the character is something he obviously would have done!

Waid is known for his work on comics such as Kingdom that comes AND Batman/Superman: The Best in the World.

Filming on Superman wrapped in July 2024, and the film is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025. The film will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.
