Former X-Men ’97 Executive Director Handsome DeMayo took a break from attacking Marvel Studios to share some information regarding the original plot of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
Wanda’s story has a completely different narrative arc, and in this version of the story, she doesn’t turn evil until the end of the film, when she ends up brutally killing a major character.
He explained that the original drafts of the script did Scarlet Witch justice, saying, “The OG drafts did her justice. Wanda was with Strange recovering from Westview, feeling bad about what she’d done.
“She helps him, Wong and Chavez (whom she tutors) defeat Nightmare in the Multiverse, where she also sees his variants happy with his children.
“However, Wanda resists and she – not Chavez – helps Strange save the day against Nightmare, who turns out to be a variant of Strange corrupted by the Darkhold. She also used her experiences in WandaVision to warn Chavez against abusing his power.
“Only after saving the day, unable to resist the temptation to find a multiverse where she and her children can stay, Wanda – sobbing – breaks away from Strange and accidentally decapitates Wong, who tries to stop her from escaping into the multiverse. That was the twist of the film.”
Even though I liked the movie that Sam Raimi delivered, this direction of the story seems much more interesting, and this would have made for a crazy cliffhanger!
What do you think of this original story arc for Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?

It made much more sense, and even when she runs away, Wanda is wracked with guilt, in classic comic book style, and continues to apologize to Strange as she disappears and leaves him with the body of his dead friend.
