Marvel Comics announces FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN prequel series

Upcoming Marvel Studios Animated Series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manset before 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, but with one notable key difference.

“Instead of going home to see Tony Stark in his house, it’s none other than Norman Osborn chatting with his Aunt May when he walks in the door.

“And just as meeting Tony put Peter in more of a spotlight than the boy needed, having Norman as a mentor “sends his life on an unexpected trajectory that puts him in contact with a lot of unexpected characters in the Marvel Universe.”

Marvel Comics has now announced that this series will have a tie-in prequel comic. It will be a five-issue limited series written by Christopher Columbus and designed by Eric Gapstur.

The story will introduce readers to a young Peter Parker along with his supporting cast and some of Spidey’s legendary villains. The comic series is said to “introduce some of the amazing adventures to come in this highly anticipated animated series that takes place during Peter’s early days as Spider-Man.”

In Marvel Animation’s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, “Peter Parker is well on his way to becoming a hero, with a journey unlike any we’ve seen before and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.

“In this new comic series, you can take your first steps with him as he discovers his powers, decides to become a hero, and even chooses his name and costume! Now Peter must survive an entire freshman year as a rookie crime-fighting vigilante… and if you think you know how this story ends, you’re in for a surprise!”

Gage said in a statement: “I’ve had the privilege of writing many Spider-Man adventures, both in the comics and in the Insomniac video games, but one thing I’ve never had the chance to do is chronicle his early exploits.

“And the exciting part about this book is that it’s a brand new take on those formative times. While this is definitely Peter Parker, the Spidey we know and love, it has a new supporting cast, including Nico Minoru, who you might know from Runaways, and some surprising twists!”

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1 goes on sale December 11th. Check out a couple of pieces of cover art below.
