Netflix has released the first trailer for a fantastic anime series titled Leviathanwhich tells a story set during the First World War.
The series is based on a trilogy of novels written by by Scott WesterfeldThe story is set in an imaginary world that mirrors our own.
In 1914, on the eve of war, a fugitive prince and a cross-dressing girl meet aboard a bioengineered airship, the HMS Leviathan, and change the course of history.
“Prince Alexander, aspiring heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, is on the run. Deryn Sharp is a commoner, disguised as a boy in the British Air Service.
“As World War I erupts, Alek and Deryn’s paths cross in the most unexpected way… taking them on a fantastical, globe-trotting adventure that will change their lives forever.”
This is a very different version of war, though, as the fighters fight in mech suits called “Clankers,” which are less technologically advanced than the mechs we’re used to, like Mobile Suit Gundams and Eva Units. You’ll see these Clankers in action in the trailer.
Christopher Ferreira (Eden character design) directs the anime series, with Joe Hisaishi contributing original songs to the production. Nobuko Toda (Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045) AND Kazuma Jinnouchi (Suzume, RWBY: Kingdom of Ice) are the music composers. Studio Orange is in charge of the animation production.
The next anime series is expected to hit Netflix in 2025.
