The first reviews have arrived on the Internet for the director Mike Flanaganthe new film of Chuck’s LifeThis is his adaptation of by Stephen King amazing story and critics love the movie!
Indeed, Chuck’s Life It’s said to be “one of the greatest Stephen King adaptations ever.” This is one of my most anticipated films of the year because I love this story and this film will provide a truly special experience for audiences.
Chuck’s Life are “three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from brain cancer at age 39 and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.”
The film is described as an apocalyptic version of Life is wonderfuland King, who saw the film, says it’s “a happiness machine.”
The stars of the film Tom Hiddleston in the lead role, Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), a teacher who tries to apply logic to the planet’s problems; Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy) is his ex, a hospital worker determined to save anyone she can; Matthew Lillard (Cry) is a construction worker neighbor who finds zen amidst the chaos; and Carlo Lumbe (Alias), plays a funeral director who has dedicated his life to helping people deal with death.
The cast also includes Mark Hamill, David Dastmalchian, Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange), AND Jacob Tremblay (Doctor Sleep), as well as My Sarah, Bliss of the Trinity, Dr. Harvey Guillen, Rahul KohlAND Erica Langenkamp.
I’m happy to see that the film is receiving good reviews and you can read some excerpts of some of them below.
Jason Gorber: “Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck is a spectacle and one of the greatest Stephen King adaptations ever.”
“The Playlist: The Life Of Chuck” represents a bit of a departure for both King and Mike Flanagan in that it is a straight-up drama for much of its running time, moving closer in tone to “The Shawshank Redemption” and “The Green Mile” than, say, “The Shining.”
JoBlo: A charming and bittersweet change of pace for Mike Flanagan.
The Daily Beast: A film as sweet as it is scary, whose scares are those that arise from the most common fears of being alone, of being separated and of not being able to form bonds with the people and memories that matter most.
Awards Buzz: Creativity is displayed throughout the show, making it an experience that should last long after the first act has concluded, inviting the audience to decipher the many pieces of the puzzle it offers.
RogerEbert.com: “It was said long before Chuck that this was a bit of a departure for the horror director, and indeed there’s no blood and only a little supernatural here. But Flanagan’s work, particularly the Netflix Haunting shows, has also been notable for its deep emotional undercurrents, and that’s the tool in his kit he leans on most with this touching study of how precious every moment we’re on this floating dust ball is.”
TheWrap: Flanagan’s best film yet. It’s Flanagan’s vibrant equivalent of Charlie Kaufman’s “Synecdoche, New York” that finds hope and meaning in its own way, just as it is one of the best modern Stephen King adaptations one could hope for.”
IGN: “Erasing any doubt as to who the world’s most devoted adapter of Stephen King stories is, Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan returns with a faithful reverse-chronological retelling of one of the author’s least scary stories: a somewhat corny metaphysical fable about life, death, the end of the world, and dancing like nobody’s watching.”
indieWire: As a director, Flanagan deals in raw, unabashed emotion; only this time he uses that passion to affirm the audience, not to unsettle them.”
With “Dread Central: Our Town” through string theory, Mike Flanagan continues to prove why he’s the only one who can put Stephen King at his most inappropriate with this delightful, heartbreaking take on “The Life of Chuck.”
Collider: Flanagan’s latest is simply stunning. His best film is a deeply felt and glorious thing.
Hammer to Nail: It’s the best kind of big commercial film: overwhelming in scale and universal in meaning. Chuck’s life could be ours.
