Amazon Studios has put the third and final season of Famous peoplefantasy drama of Good omenswhich was filmed in Scotland.
The news comes following allegations of sexual assault against the author, and is the second project his name has been associated with to be put on hold.
Disney has also suspended production on its adaptation of Gaiman’s novel The Cemetery BookAccording to the report, “there are discussions about possible changes in production” on Good omensbut no further details were provided on how the plan is moving.
The report states that “multiple factors influenced the decision.” Gaiman denied the allegations and said he was “disturbed” by them.
Gaiman served as executive producer, writer and showrunner on the series and said in a previous statement: “I’m so happy to finally be able to finish the story Terry [Pratchett] and I plotted the graph in 1989 and 2006.
“Terry was determined that if we did Good omens for television, we could take the story all the way to the end. The first season was all about averting Armageddon, dangerous prophecies, and the end of the world.
“Season two was sweet and gentle, though it may have ended less joyously than a certain Angel and Demon might have hoped. Now, in season three, we’ll once again be dealing with the end of the world.
“The plans for Armageddon are going awry. Only Crowley and Aziraphale, working together, can hope to set things right. And they’re not talking.”
Vernon SandersAmazon MGM Studios’ head of television added: “Good omens It ticked all the boxes for a smart, witty, and funny comedy that not only hit Prime Video, but also made “goodness” watchable and entertaining thanks to Neil and Terry’s immense creativity.
“The final season is sure to be filled with the same dynamic energy that our global customers have come to appreciate.”
Gaiman has spoken previously about how he never intended the second season’s story arc to be the second installment. He and Terry Pratchett They had already worked on a sequel to the fantasy comedy, but the current season does not reflect the story they had conceived.
Gaiman has invented a different story for the second season that could act as a bridge between the first and third seasons. Then, the third season would tell the story of the sequel that he and Pratchett have invented.
We don’t know any major plot details for the third installment of the story, but in a previous interview Tennant and Sheen were asked if there were any historical periods they’d like to explore in season three, to which Sheen replied: “Well, there’s a lot of them, right?”
Tennant added: “There’s so many possibilities, isn’t there? I mean, we also really enjoy doing scenes from different periods. They’re so much fun to do… Partly because of the nature of the disguise, but also because they show little pieces of the relationship and little aspects of the characters and how they’ve developed. And it’s so wonderful to do.”
I’m sure Amazon will finish the series, but we don’t yet know what the development of the series will be like when they’re ready to move on.
