David Dastmalchian Wants to Play Twitch in Todd McFarlane’s KING SPAWN

David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad, Dead of Night with the Devil) hopes to have the opportunity to be part of Todd McFarlane’s imminent King Spawn films and there is a particular character he would like to play.

During an interview with ComicBook, the actor explained that in the film he would like to play a “thin and tall, a little nerdy” character.

Dastmalchain said: “I always told Todd that there are a couple of guys who hang out in the Spawn universe and one of them is kind of skinny and tall, a little bit nerdy…

“I always felt there was a place for me down there. I don’t like to put ideas in executives’ heads, but I throw them out there.”

It’s clear he’s talking about Detective Maximilian “Twitch” Williams, who first appeared alongside Sam in Spawn #1, and the actor could very well play the role if given the opportunity.

Years ago Dr. Jeremy Renner was meant to play the character together My Friend Jamie Foxxwho is still supposed to play Spawn. I don’t think Renner is attached to the project anymore, so it will be interesting to see who ends up taking on the role.

The film has previously been described as “Spawn meets David Fincher” and a “gritty” and “dirty” thing. When previously speaking about his take on the story, McFarlane explained, “There are two major roles in the script. There’s obviously a sort of Spawn himself, although he’s not the most important role in some ways, and then there’s the cop. The cop is this Twitch character who’s been there since issue #1.

“Twitch is the role in this movie, and I kind of refer to him as my Sheriff Brody, who is the sheriff in the movie Jaws. Even though his name was Jaws, Jaws didn’t speak much in his movie, right? He just showed up at the right time to make the movie worthwhile.”

King Spawn was created at Blumhouse and is expected to begin production in 2025. Jason Blum previously said, “I’m going to bring the Blumhouse touch [to the Spawn movie]. It’s going to be edgy and original compared to other superhero movies. It’s definitely going to feel like the Blumhouse version of a superhero movie.”

Do you think David Dastmalchian would be right for the role of Twitch?
