Sigourney Weaver Reflects on David Fincher’s ALIEN 3 and Feels Sorry for David Fincher

David Fincher’S Alien 3 It has some interesting moments and is a fun concept, but ultimately it turned out to be one of the big disappointments of the Alien franchise, sparking some controversy among fans.

The production of this film had a lot of problems and Fincher himself practically disowned the film.

In the film, Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) lands on Fiorina 161, a desolate prison planet inhabited by violent former criminals. The facility’s residents, all men, live under a strict religious code, and Ripley’s arrival disrupts the fragile peace.

Unbeknownst to the prisoners, Ripley is carrying an alien embryo inside her, and soon after her arrival, a facehugger also takes up residence on her ship, giving rise to a new xenomorph.

This alien begins hunting the inmates, who have no weapons to defend themselves, forcing them to rely on their wits and Ripley’s experience with the creatures.

As the alien terrorizes the prisoners, Ripley discovers the horrifying truth that she carries an alien queen within her. This realization sparks a battle for survival, not only against the xenomorph stalking them, but also against the approaching Weyland-Yutani Corporation, which seeks to capture the alien for its bioweapons division.

Ultimately, Ripley sacrifices herself by throwing herself into a molten furnace, ensuring that the alien inside her dies with her, thus preventing the corporation from using it for their own sinister purposes.

Weaver recently reflected on the film, saying that he felt the lack of studio support Fincher received.

The actress said: “Well, I could feel that David had to get on the phone and fight every day to get us to shoot what he wanted the next day. And I’m sorry that he didn’t have a chance to own the script before we started.

“That makes it very difficult to make a movie. I remember Vincent Ward’s original script was about monks in a monastery and Ripley was in a coma for half the movie. So, I really felt the lack of support from the studios.

“That was a transitional moment where studios stopped thinking about ‘let’s make great movies’ and started thinking about ‘let’s not lose money.’

“They had a great idea to bring David Fincher on board for his first film, but then not supporting him was really idiotic. He helped film in England, so we could move forward with things to a certain extent.”

She went on to say that she is working with Fincher and thinks they made a great film: “I heard recently that David passed on the project and I’m sad because I really enjoyed working with him and I think we made a great film. I’m glad he got a chance to do his version. It was a great ensemble.”

Maybe he would change his mind if he rewatched the film all these years later, because some really bad creative decisions were made.
