Tim Burton Says He Didn’t Make BEETLEJUICE Sequel for the Money, Didn’t Watch the First Film to Prepare

Tim Burton’s World He recently appeared at the Venice Film Festival press conference for his upcoming film Beetle Juice Beetle Juiceand while he was there he talked about his motivations for making the film, and insisted that it wasn’t about the money.

The director is also keen to say that he didn’t even watch the first film he shot in preparation for the sequel, stating, “And I didn’t even watch it before I did it!”

Burton continued: “I didn’t want to make a big sequel for the money or anything like that, I wanted to do it for very personal reasons. Like I said, I didn’t watch the first movie to prepare for this. I remembered the spirit of it and I remembered everyone here.”

Burton said that in recent years he had become “disillusioned with the film industry” and realized that if he wanted to make another film, he would have to “do it from the heart.”

This is what he discovered by making Beetlesu Juice … He continued: “As you get older, sometimes life takes a different turn and I got a little lost.

“So for me, this film was a moment of recharging, a return to the things I love to do, the way I love to do them, and the people I love to do them with.”

When asked if a third Beetlejuice film was in the works, Burton laughed and said, “Let’s do the math… it took 35 years to make, so I’m over 100 years old. But I guess it’s possible with the advent of science today, but I don’t think so.”

Michael KeatonHe previously spoke about the film saying that it has “a stronger story” than the first film. The actor went on to say, “There’s more connection for the audience in terms of the other characters.”

He added: “There are things in here that I wasn’t ready for, that are beyond delightful. Instead of being like, ‘I can’t wait for this thing to come,’ or, ‘I just want this thing called Beetlejuice to go crazy.'”

In the film, “After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still obsessed with Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the city in the attic and the portal to the afterlife is accidentally opened.”

“With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time before someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his own brand of mayhem.”

Keaton is joined by actress like Lydia Deetz, Catherine O’Hara like Delia Deetz, with new cast members Justin Theroux (The leftovers), Monica Bellucci (Spectre, the Matrix movies), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon), Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Scream VI) like Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, and Willem Dafoe’s World like a B-movie action star who died and became a police officer in the afterlife.

Burton explained what inspired him to tell the story, saying, “I identified with Lydia’s character so much, but then you come all these years later, and you’re on your journey, going from a cool teenager to a nerdy adult, back and forth. That made it exciting, that gave it a foundation. So that was the thing that really drew me in.”

Alfred Gough AND Miles Millar (Wednesday AND Small Villa) wrote the screenplay along with an earlier draft of Seth Grahame Smith AND David KatzenbergKatzenberg and Grahame-Smith are also producers. Danny Elfman returns to compose the soundtrack.

Beetle Juice Beetle Juice will be released in theaters on September 6, 2024.
