Tom Welling Offers Update on SMALLVILLE Animated Series – ‘Lionel Luthor Looms Over Everyone’

My Friend Tom Welling AND Michael Rosenbaum they were very explicit in bringing Small Villa as an animated series and fans are eagerly waiting for this to happen. They have been talking about it for several years, but unfortunately they are no closer to making it happen.

Welling recently shared an update on the project at the Terrificon convention in Connecticut over the weekend (via KSiteTV).

Welling told fans: “We’ve been talking about this for a few years. We want to do a Small Villa comic and animated series, and then we would give voice to the characters. We already have an artist and we have a poster.”

He spoke about the poster saying, “We haven’t been able to share it yet, but Lionel Luthor is looming over everyone and it’s really cool, but we can’t do anything without DC telling us we can do it.

“They haven’t given us the green light yet, but we’re ready, and Al [Gough] and miles [Millar]who wrote Smallville, they want to write it, but it’s not our property, until they tell us we can do it.”

It looks like Lionel Luthor will have a big role in the story, which is interesting and cool. I’d love to know where they want to take the story.

The only thing standing between them is James Gunn and DC Studios giving their green light. Rosenbaum and Gunn are good friends, so you’d think this project would have a good chance of happening, but maybe not.

Welling then admitted that a Smallville revival would be unlikely to be a moneymaker for Warner Bros. Discovery, but I think there is a strong enough fan base that it would be a success!

He added: “It would be more of a labor of love. It’s not going to make a billion dollars, so the studio is a bit like [grumbles]. Maybe we could do a – not a GoFundMe, because it’s financial – but a petition. We can petition Warner Bros. to let us do this.”

Rosenbaum had already anticipated the project saying: “Tom and I are working on a Small Villa animated series that we’re trying to make. It’s going to take some time.”

He continued: “But the creators of Small Villa they’re attached, they want to be part of it. And we, you know, when the time is right, we’ll propose it.

“You know, we’re working on it and we have some free animations that we’ve been working on [on] with someone who was just amazing. It sounds amazing. So if we can do that, that would be awesome.”

Rosenbaum has “a concept of what the show is” and has previously said that the entire cast of Small Villa “they would give voice to their character on the show.”

The original series starred Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor, Welling as Clark Kent, My life is beautiful like Lana Lang, Eric Johnson, Sam Jones III, Allison Mack, Annette O’Toole, John Schneider, John Glover, My friend Jensen, Erica Durance, Justin HartleyAND Blue Callumamong many others.

Welling also spoke briefly about some issues he had with his surprise cameo appearance on The CW Crisis on Infinite Earths intersection.

In this, we learned that Welling’s Superman had, for some reason, given up his powers to focus on his wife and family. Smallville fans were not happy, and neither was Welling.

The actor said: “I don’t know if he’s really the Clark from Smallville because it’s a multiverse, so you never know. And I don’t know how he lost his powers. No one’s ever told me.”

Do you think that DC Studios will eventually give the green light to a Small Villa animated series?
