Two years ago, Disney+ announced that it had ordered a pilot episode for a new supernatural series titled Witch Mountaina reimagining of Disney’s successful film franchise. The stories in the films and series are based on the 1968 Alexander’s Key novel Escape to Witch Mountain.
The show has been described as “a modern reinvention of the cult classic set in the shadow of ‘Witch Mountain,’ following two teenagers who develop strange abilities and discover that their sleepy suburb may not be as idyllic as it seems.”
Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World) had the starring role in the show, and was cast alongside Isabella Gravitti (The Observer), Levi Miller (Simplify), Bianca “b” Norwood (We crashed), AND Mr. Kelly (Straight man).
The pilot episode of the series has even been filmed, but Howard has some bad news to give her, which apparently will never see the light of day.
Collider reported that Howard revealed the news during a panel at Fan Expo Canada in Toronto. She was asked about the series and explained:
“It’s not happening, which is disappointing. It was a really great groove and we all had a great time shooting it here in Toronto. Some things make it, some things don’t, and that’s the sad truth of this industry.”
The series was to have starred Howard as Audrey, whose teenage daughter Tia (Isabella Gravitti) begins to exhibit strange mental abilities.
It’s a shame that it’s not moving forward, especially since the first episode has already been shot. I loved those movies when I was a kid! They told an interesting story that still has some life left in it.
