As you know, Rob McElhenney (It’s always sunny in Philadelphia) shot a scene for Deadpool and Wolverinebut in the end his scene was cut from the film.
McElhenny and My name is Ryan Reynolds. They are really good friends and business partners, as they own a football team together, so it was surprising to find out that his scene had been cut, but whatever they shot didn’t make the film.
Reynolds recently took to Instagram to honor his friend and explain why the scene didn’t make it into the film. He shared:
“A word about my ‘dear’ friend, @robmcelhenney. Rob was very kind to make a cameo in #DeadpoolAndWolverine that I hope will survive in digital extras.
“When you edit a movie, you say ‘sometimes you have to kill your loved ones.’ And with a heavy heart (and through a lot of outside intervention) I had to kill a treasure with this cameo…
“The sequence didn’t work as we originally constructed it. Rob was the only reason it stayed in the edit for so long, because even under a mask and a TVA helmet, you can feel him burning with a raw, near-endless reserve of talent, writerly wit and “I make hit TV” swagger. Don’t even get me started on Wrexham. I wouldn’t know a love like @wrexham_afc if it weren’t for Rob McElhenney.
“Anyway, I really enjoyed making this movie, but it wasn’t stress-free. There was a lot of expectation, and I’m pretty sure the best-written villain in the history of cinema is ‘Expectation.’ And when you’re doing stressful things, it feels good when you have friends around you.
“And while I’m mortified that he flew all the way to London for a cameo that wasn’t supposed to be, I’m grateful that my friend was there with me on that set. When I see Rob, my heart rate slows and my nervous system stops screaming at me. He shows up for people. And he showed up for me.
*As he begged for his life, Alioth snatched his unsuspecting body out of the air, swallowed him whole, and eventually digested him into Alioth poop.
“RIP TVA soldier. ❤️🙏💛
“ps Rob would make an awesome Hydra Bob. @marvelstudios”
It’s a shame that the scene was cut, but filmmakers have to do what they can to make their film work the way they want it to.
