Prime Video has released a new clip and TV spot for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2. I am very excited for the return of this series and hope that the quality of the storytelling continues to be high.
In the clip, we see Isildur and a new character, Estrid, stop to help what appears to be a group of travelers in distress before they are attacked by Wild Men. Luckily for them, the elven archer Arondir shows up to help them.
The TV spot features Tom Bombadil and our first look at Ciarán Hinds as “The Dark Wizard.” This is the character who could end up being Saruman, but if that happens, it would be a major shift in lore.
The series is set “thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’S The Hobbit AND The Lord of the Ringsand will take viewers back to a time when great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the thinnest thread, and the greatest villain Tolkien had ever created threatened to plunge the entire world into darkness.
“Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows a cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared resurgence of evil in Middle-earth.
“From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the Elven capital of Lindon, to the extraordinary island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest corners of the map, these kingdoms and characters will leave a legacy that will live on long after they are gone.”
In season two, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without an army or allies, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will.
“Building on the epic scope and ambition of the first season, Amazon’s second season The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power immerses even its most beloved and vulnerable characters in a growing tide of darkness, challenging each of them to find their place in a world increasingly on the brink of destruction.
“Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots… as friendships are tested and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good fight ever more bravely to hold on to what matters most to them… themselves.”
The Rings of Power Season 2 will debut on Prime Video on August 29.
