Some photos have been shared for the highly anticipated film adaptation of Stephen King’S Salem’s Lot from the director by Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home).
These photos come from Vanity Fair and offer a sneak peek at the film, as well as a little taste of the vampire horrors that await.
I have already seen a trailer for this movie that has never been released online and I think this movie is awesome! I was really shocked when the studio made the stupid decision to release the movie about Max instead of in theaters.
Dauberman spoke about the film in an interview, saying, “You could make a very dry version of this movie, but that’s not really my personality. Try to ride the ups and downs of that wave.
“You’re having fun, and then you might get a scare, and then you’re having fun again. Hopefully in the end it feels like a full circle.”
Lewis Pullman (Bad Times at the El Royale, Top Gun: The Legend Continues) stars in Salem’s Lot and will play the role of author Ben Mears, “a man who returns to his childhood home, Jerusalem’s Lot, seeking inspiration for his next book, only to discover his hometown is gripped by a vampire, prompting him to join a diverse group to fight the evil presence.”
Speaking previously about the film, Pullman said: “It’s a scary thing to do these remakes, man. It’s like, this and [Top Gun: Maverick]There’s so much pressure that it’s hard to figure out a trick to make it work.
“But Gary Dauberman, the director, is really keen to do the book justice. But even the previous adaptation was in two parts, because it’s such a big book and there are so many moving parts and so many characters.
“So there are some parts where Gary had to push and find what was really at the heart of the movie to keep, but for the most part, he’s really faithful to the book and keeps a lot of the original dialogue. He’s a Stephen King sleuth, so he doesn’t want to hurt Stephen.”
He added: “So I think it’s in good hands, Gary is a really smart guy who has a keen eye for things. I think it’s not just about the jump scares, but the more conceptual and visual things that, rather than a shock that fades from your body in the next five minutes, something more visual, like a fingerprint that’s burned into your retinas like a haunting image that will wake you up in the middle of the night and you can’t get it out of your head.”
King saw the film and was impressed, saying, “Between you and me, Twitter, I saw the new SALEM’S LOT and it’s pretty good. Old school horror film: slow build, big payoff.
“I don’t know why WB is holding it back; not that it’s embarrassing or anything. Who knows. I just write the f–king stuff.”
King had already spoken about the film several months ago, saying: “It feels like a horror version of slow-burn movies like THE GREAT ESCAPE. It develops very well.
“There are some deviations from the book that I disagree with, but overall, faithful. Best scene: Danny Glick in the hospital, trying to rip open a blood bag. Glick’s scene could have been directed by John Carpenter in his prime.”
The film also stars Jordan Preston Carter like Mark Petrie, Alfred Woodard like Dr. Cody, Mackenzie Leigh like Susan Norton, John Benjamin Hickey like Father Callahan, and William Sadler in an unannounced role. James Wan is one of the producers of the film.
The film will be released on Max later this year.
