Teri Hatcher Talks ‘Breaking The Internet’ With ‘Evocative’ Lois Lane Photo

Before comic book based movies and TV shows dominated the entertainment world, there was a great Superman series on ABC that ran from 1993 to 1997 titled Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

The show ran for four seasons and was one of the few shows I enjoyed watching in the early 90’s. The series starred Dean Cain like Superman and Teri Hatcher played the role of Lois Lane.

One of the most popular promotional images released for the series shows Hatcher with a slight smile on his face and Superman’s red cape draped over his shoulders, suggesting that he was wearing nothing underneath.

Yes, it is one of those images that has remained etched in my memory and, during a recent interview with The Guardian, Hatcher recalled that he drove the Internet crazy with that photo and how it came to be.

The actress explained: “I broke the Internet when we still had dial-up. I don’t take credit for being so fabulous. I remember the photo shoot, which was to promote the TV show.

“It took me all day. I was wearing a white blouse and a pencil skirt because Lois is a reporter for the Daily Planet, with my cape wrapped over it.

“Only on the last take of the day did someone say, ‘Can we try the cape without the blouse?’ I thought, ‘What does that imply? Why would Lois Lane be naked under the cape?’ We did it just as a joke, but it was evocative. Now that I’m much older, I’m still proud of it.”

The photoshoot was so well-received and popular that Hatcher later shot another, hotter one, featuring her lying on a Superman-themed bed, with red blankets wrapped around her body.
