By Lucasfilm Star Wars series The Acolyte It was cancelled by Disney and there are no plans to continue the story. I have to say I’m not very surprised. The writing for that series was not good and I found the story and character incredibly uninteresting.
The decision to cancel the series comes more than a month after the eight-episode first season of the series concluded its run on Disney+. The series was created by creator, director, executive producer and showrunner Lesley Headland, who had hoped to continue the story.
While The Acolyte was a hit with some critics, with a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, it divided Star Wars fans, which was reflected in its overall viewership. Many Star Wars fans trashed the series, and things got really ugly for a while.
In any case, fans of the series tried to push for a second season with #RenewTheAcolyte, which trended on X for a while. But the support wasn’t strong enough to make Disney want to do it.
While the series started out incredibly strong with 4.8 million views on its first day on the streamer, making it the biggest series premiere on Disney+ this year. After five days, it had climbed to 11.1 million views.
But the series has had a steady decline and The Acolyte failed to maintain its momentum. The season finale totaled 335 million minutes of viewership, the lowest for a Star Wars series finale.
Ultimately, Disney deemed it not worth renewing the big-budget Star Wars series, which had cost well over $100 million per season to produce.
