Daredevil: Reborn actor Vincent D’Onofriowho plays Kingpin, recently spoke about the series and teased that it could be more violent than we’ve seen in the past.
During an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, D’Onofrio spoke about the level of violence: “There are some things in this show that go way beyond what was done in the original. [Netflix] show.”
He then went on to tease something his character does in the story that he says was a surprise that it made it into the cut: “There’s one thing in particular that my character does that I can’t believe made it into the cut.”
So for those fans who are worried that Marvel will hold back on this series, it doesn’t look like that will be the case.
Daredevil: Reborn reaches Matt Murdock (Charles Cox), “a blind lawyer with extraordinary abilities and his nemesis, Wilson Fisk, who is pursuing his political agenda in New York.”
Head of Marvel’s Television, Streaming and Animated Division Brad Winderbaumhad already spoken about the series saying that it would give a completely new “political” slant to the bitter rivalry between Daredevil and Kingpin.
Winderbaum compared the show to X-Men ’97: “Daredevil it’s amazing. It’s similar in some ways to X-Men ’97 because it’s reviving something that fans love. But it’s taking it in a new direction.”
He went on to tease how things have changed, saying, “These characters have matured, the universe is different than it was. Things have changed, society has changed. Matt and Wilson have changed.
“And their characters are going to collide in ways they’ve never seen before. It’s not enough to just try to kill each other anymore. There’s a whole game of politics at play.”
The new series is said to be inspired by Kingdom of the devil plot, which explores the power dynamics between the Kingpin and the vigilantes who oppose him. The story revolves around the power struggle between Daredevil and Wilson Fisk, who becomes mayor of New York City.
D’Onofrio previously spoke about the project, saying, “It brings with it a lot of great storytelling and all the collateral history that happened in those original three seasons. So now we can start this Born Again situation with all that history behind it and the outcome of all that history. So now we’re all talking about Daredevil: Born Again in those terms.”
Daredevil: Reborn is currently in development by the directors Justin Benson AND Aaron Mooreheadwho worked on both Knight of the Moon AND Loki.
