Lionsgate has released a new clip for its reboot of The crowand it seems like the creative team is really trying to capture the tone and feel of the John Wick franchise. The only difference is that the Crow can’t dodge bullets.
The new clip is set in an opera house and as a security team chases the Crow in an attempt to kill him, he violently eliminates them.
Director Rupert Sanders previously spoke about the film and tried to explain that it’s not just another Hollywood remake. He explained, “There’s nothing Hollywood about this movie. It’s a very ramshackle indie film.”
He went on to tease the audience by saying that they wanted to make a film that was closer to the creator. by James O’Barr source material. By making a more indie-style film, the creative team was “able to stay close to the core and the darkness and violence found in the graphic novel.”
The director added: “The only reason we could do it is because it’s not a studio film.” He also said that budget constraints made the film better: “You have to be more skilled at making things more efficiently, that are emotionally resonant and not just spectacular.”
In the film: “Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA Twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out on a journey to seek ruthless vengeance on their killers, spanning the worlds of the living and the dead to right what was wrong.”
So far there has been an initial reaction to the film from Warrior screenwriter Dorfman Cliffwho said: “If hypothetically, one saw a screening of @TheCrow_Movie #thecrow that @Lionsgate is releasing in August, one might say, this is horrible, this is unwatchable, don’t waste your money, or I can’t believe it’s that much worse than the original. It is. And don’t do it.”
This version of the film also features the singer/actor FKA twigs, Danny Houston (30 days of darkness), Laura Birn (Foundation), Sami Bouajila (A son), AND Jordan Bolger (The woman king).
The crow The reboot will be released in theaters on August 23, 2024.
