AGATHA ALL ALONG cast compares series to classic horror films like THE EXORCIST, THE CRAFT and POLTERGEIST

Marvel’s Disney+ Series Is Just a Month Away Agatha for lifewhich is the WandaVision spin-off series that focuses on the continuing adventures of Author: Kathryn Hahnthe character of Agatha Harkness.

She is joined by other witches in the cast Patti LuPoneThe Lilia, Sasheer ZamataI’m Jennifer, Debra Jo RuppSharon, and Ali AhnaAlice, as well as her co-stars Joe Locke, Mary Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili AND Aubrey Square.

Speaking about the show and its tone in a new interview with Total Film via GamesRadar, star Joe Locke said the show references a considerable number of iconic films with The Wizard of Oz being one of the most cited.

In the issue out Thursday, it reveals that “each episode is inspired by a different classic horror/thriller film.”

He continued:

“There are some great Exorcist references in there. Rosemary’s Baby was one of them. There are so many. Even The Goonies, that was the one I liked.

One day Jac sent Kevin a picture of something and he was literally like, ‘Oh my God, that’s The Goonies.’ So, for me, that was the biggest one.”

Locke isn’t the only one who loves pop culture references: Aubrey Plaza shares a few of her own:

“The Craft is one that I felt really connected to. That movie gets hardcore scary, and the great thing about The Craft being an Agatha movie is that it really rides the line.

There are moments where it’s really funny and almost over-the-top, but then there are moments where it gets really dark and real and scary.”

Meanwhile, Agatha herself, Kathryn Hahn, says she loves the references to old Hollywood.

“There’s a little bit of Nancy Meyers in there. There’s, [as] for witches, a bit of the friendship of Hocus Pocus – the deep, sweet friendships – and also the terror of Practical Magic, of things like Poltergeist or ET”

In the series, the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself depressed and powerless after a suspicious goth teenager helps her break free from a twisting spell.

“Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical series of tests that, if passed, rewards a witch with what she lacks. Together, Agatha and this mysterious teenager assemble a desperate coven and set off down, down, down, down the Road…”
