After finally being able to play Gambit in Deadpool and Wolverine, My First Encounter with Channing Tatum He hopes more than ever to one day be able to make a solo Gambit film, and he is willing to do terrible things to achieve that.
While on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonTatum reflected on his time trying to get a Gambit movie off the ground and said, “It was initially at Fox. I worked there for about six years trying to get an independent movie off the ground. [movie] happen.
“Then, right on the one-yard line, we were about to shoot the movie and then Fox got bought by Disney. Kevin Feigewho runs Marvel, I love him so much. He was literally like, ‘Look, I love Gambit, I just don’t know how to do it right now.
“I don’t know how this fits into what we’re doing, so I need a minute to figure it out.’ Now, we’ve kind of cracked a little code.”
When asked if he would still be willing to star in a Gambit solo film, Tatum said, “I would kill kittens to do that. [one].I would do a lot of terrible things to make that happen.”
Don’t worry, I’m sure we won’t get to Tatum actually killing kittens. The project will either happen someday or it won’t happen. But no one is going to force Tatum to kill animals to make it happen.
Tatum went on to praise Ryan Reynolds for allowing his live-action version of Gambit to finally come to life in Deadpool and Wolverine.
“This industry is a really interesting thing. I can honestly say there isn’t a single person who is more of a class act and cares more than that man. He pulled Gambit out of the grave.
“It was nothing and it was nowhere. [Reynolds] It was like, ‘I want this for you, I want this in the movie and I want to see it.’ He made it all possible and I’m forever grateful to him.”
I thought Tatum was awesome as Gambit! He was incredibly hilarious and I think fans are much more open to a Gambit solo movie now that we’ve seen him in action, but I also think that’s a long shot.
We’ll just have to wait and see what happens!
