Cate Blanchettwho played the role of Hela in Thor: Ragnarokrecently started collaborating with Marvel Studios and confirms something every fan has suspected: Marvel goes into production on most, if not all, of its films without a completed script.
During an interview with GQ, Blanchett said that Marvel Studios is “not necessarily used to having a completed script” and that production on the films can actually begin once some action sequences have been outlined.
He describes the process as “working backwards.” He said, “Marvel isn’t necessarily used to having a full script. Often, they’ll embark on the essential battles and then start working backwards and building their stories.”
“It’s a whole, huge puzzle, I don’t know. What I didn’t understand then was [it was] the first time a female villain was realized on screen, so it was exciting, but I knew Taika [Waititi] he would have liked to give it his personal touch, and that Chris [Hemsworth] He was so open to everything, incredibly generous, funny and willing to take things in another direction, so it felt like there was a really playful, exciting energy.”
It’s certainly not the most effective way to make a movie, but it worked for Marvel until it stopped working and things started to get really complicated.
