The house is back star Lily Sullivan got the lead role in the upcoming M3GAN spin-off movie ANIMA8TEproduced by Atomic Monster and Blumhouse.
Sullivan will play the “beautiful artificially intelligent android that a man acquires to help him cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife.
“In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, a man inadvertently transforms a harmless love robot into a mortal soulmate.”
The film is set in the same universe as M3GAN, and is described as “much more daring than the original horror thriller.” The film is also said to be in the tradition of 90s domestic thrillers, but with a modern, technological twist.
The film will be directed by Kate Dolan (You are not my mother) after rewriting the original draft from Raphael Jordan (Recovery Marines), which was based on a story by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu and Jordan.
Dolan said in a statement: “Fundamentally, I see this film as an exploration of relationships and loneliness. Despite technological advances, there are enduring human truths that we cannot escape, and I can’t wait to dive into those depths.”
Wan said: “Anima8te is an exciting and seductive addition to the ‘M3GAN’ universe. We are thrilled to collaborate with Kate to bring this story to life with her unique cinematic vision and point of view.”
Universal Pictures has set a January 2, 2026 release date.
