Marvel Shares Footage and Details for YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN Animated Series

Marvel Animation held a presentation at Disney’s D23 Expo, where they shared a preview of some of their upcoming animated shows, and one of the ones that I’m really excited about is Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

They shared a couple of new images from the series along with some very funny footage! I shared the images below, but the footage has not been posted online.

I will say that I love the animation style, which is inspired by the Steve Ditko comic book style.

The shared clip shows Peter Parker before transforming into Spider-Man, while being dropped off at school by his Aunt May.

As he exits the car, a portal opens in the sky and a Venom-like creature falls through and begins to attack. As Peter and May watch in horror and amazement, Doctor Strange also steps through the portal and fights the creature.

After Strange captures him and takes him back through the portal, a spider falls out of it and lands on Peter while he is talking to a girl. At this point, the spider bites him and he passes out. This is the beginning of this version of Spider-Man.

In this version of the story, it was also revealed that Norman Osborn is a mentor to Peter. In a way, he acts the same way Alfred does with Batman, which is interesting.

There was a second clip shown where Spider-Man was fighting a couple of bad guys that were causing havoc in the streets. He was wearing an early version of a Spider-Man suit and his web gadgets were connected via tubes to a web-making system strapped to his waist.

As Peter fights, Norman guides him through the process and offers him help, offering advice on how to handle the situation.

A previously revealed synopsis states that the series is set before 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, but with one notable key difference. “Rather than returning home to his apartment to see Tony Stark in his house, it’s none other than Norman Osborn who’s chatting with his Aunt May when he walks in the door.

“And just as meeting Tony put Peter in more of a spotlight than the boy needed, having Norman as a mentor “sends his life on an unexpected trajectory that puts him in contact with a lot of unexpected characters in the Marvel Universe.”

Marvel’s Head of Animation, Mr. Bradspoke about the series, saying, “I mean, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is incredible, to say the least. I think it’s going to really surprise people. It’s very much like a cut from that Steve Ditko era of comics.”

He went on to explain, “It’s Peter Parker going back to high school and just trying to make things work, taking care of his aunt, completely broke and forced to become a superhero.

“It’s essentially Spider-Man, and what Jeff Trammell, the creator of that series, did, and what I think people will love, was build this group of characters around Peter that you fall in love with.”

She added: “In the same way, just because it’s a long-form narrative, as those relationships brew as the stakes get higher in that first season, things feel really tragic and dangerous, and pretty unbelievable. So, I love that show.”

It looks really interesting and I can’t wait to see how the project turns out.

The series’ voice cast includes Hudson Thames (What if…?) like Peter Parker, Eugene Byrd (Spidey and his amazing friends, 8 Mile) like Lonnie Lincoln, Song of Grace (Make fun of) like Nico Minoru, Hugh Dancy (Hannibal) like Otto Octavius, Kari Wahlgren (Rick and Morty, the movie) like Aunt May, and Zeno Robinson (My Hero Academia, Pokemon Master Journeys: The Series) like Harry Osborn. Also includes Charles Cox like Matt Murdock / Daredevil along with Paul F. Tompkins like Bentley Wittman / Wizard.

It looks like this show is going to be really fun!
