Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni Reveal First Footage for THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU at D23

Mr. Jon Favreau AND Dave Filoni have started production on Star Wars movie The Mandalorian and Grogu and brought some early footage to show fans at Disney’s presentation at the D23 Expo.

Favreau directs the film and, taking the stage, said: “We are all very excited to have Star Wars back on the big screen.”

The director also confirmed that filming on the movie began just two weeks ago, adding, “It’s the last D23 before the movie comes out, we had to put something out.”

Here’s a description of the footage that was screened thanks to The Wrap:

“The footage shown during the presentation featured the Mandalorian (once again voiced by Peter Pascal) on a snowy planet, entering a room and killing a group of snow soldiers.

There was a voiceover from Pascal saying that since he had taken Grogu as an apprentice, he would be more selective in the assignments he accepted.”

Mando says in the trailer: “We’re professional bounty hunters, now that he’s with me, I’m going to be selective about my assignments.”

“On top of that there was a shot of the Mandalorian in a spaceship with Zeb (from Star Wars: Rebelsas first introduced in The Mandalorian), a great moment where the Mandalorian and Grogu kidnapped a zombie (on the same snowy planet).

“They go down an ice wall, and when they reach the bottom, there are four-legged AT-AT walkers waiting to shoot them.

“Then there was a moment with the mechanical boys of the little droids of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (who worked on C-3PO) and later appeared on The Mandalorian.

“It seems like a nice scaling down of the established world in The Mandalorian and associated series.”

“We’re professional bounty hunters, now that he’s with me, I’ll be selective about my assignments,” Mando says in voiceover.

This is the first theatrical film based on a Disney+ series and the first Star Wars upcoming movies from The Rise of Skywalker. Mandalorian and Grogu will hit theaters in May 2026.
