Director Zack Snyder he talked about wanting to return to playing Army of the Dead universe and make a new film, but it doesn’t look like he’ll have that opportunity, as Netflix has reportedly abandoned the franchise.
The Wrap points out that Snyder had ambitious plans for the franchise, with several sequels and spin-offs in the works, including an animated series, but all of those projects were canceled.
Deborah Snyder stressed in an interview that Army of the Dead “it’s not quite dead,” as there will be a themed experience at Six Flags theme parks this Halloween. He said of it: “It’s going to be a really cool experience.”
But as far as other movies and shows go, don’t expect Netflix to make any more. I imagine Rebel Moon will be next on the chopping block, because those movies were terrible. I’d be surprised if they continued with that sci-fi franchise.
During a previous interview, Snyder had spoken about his desire to return to play Army of the Deadsaying, “I keep telling Netflix we need to move on and do something else. [‘Army of the Dead’] and they keep encouraging me to make more ‘Rebel Moon’ movies.”
He continued: “But I think the ‘Army’ universe is really rich and fun, and zombies never go out of style, so for me it’s an obvious choice.”
Netflix obviously sees it differently.
Zack Snyder is a great director who knows how to create spectacular visual effects, but he needs strong screenwriters to help him craft stories and scripts.
