Deadpool and Wolverine have had so many fun cameos it’s hard to keep track, from great actors returning to iconic roles that made them famous to stars reprising their roles for the first time in spectacular fashion.
One of these “newcomers” was Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, The Witcher). His scene was quick, but very funny. As Deadpool traveled through timelines trying to capture a Wolverine to take back to his time, he saw many played by Hugh Jackman. But one was played by Henry Cavilland it was a great replacement.
Cavill shared a photo of himself in the role in a recent social media post, saying: “Just to be safe, I shaved my mustache for this. Just the mustache.”
This was a nod to the criticism Warner Bros. and DC received when Cavill had to return to the set of Justice League (2017) to do additional filming while he was shooting the movie Mission: Impossible – Fallout. The actors ME His contract required him to wear a mustache for the role, so WB was left with the option of digitally erasing his facial hair in post-production, which wasn’t great.
Deadpool and Wolverine director by Shawn Levi spoke about Cavill’s casting in a recent interview, saying:
“If we want to talk about him, we have to call him by his real credited name, Cavillrine, coined by Ryan. I knew it was undeniable as soon as Ryan invented that term.
“He said ‘yes’ right away because he knew it would be subversive and playful. It was also with a lot of affection for him and his body of work, and playing with his legacy as a DC hero now appearing as a variant of a Marvel hero.”
Reynolds also weighed in on the decision, explaining:
“It was the first day of shooting, and it came from the reality of, ‘Who the hell are you going to cast?’ I can’t think of a more impossible, frustrating role to recast than Wolverine.
“As an actor, it would be horrible and intimidating, and you would have to approach it differently, but if you had to do it and replace the man who made it canon in every way, shape and form on and off screen was unavailable, Henry Cavill would be pretty good.”
And he was good! I love thinking back to the jokes and little funny things that the movie managed to keep secret until the premiere.
I have only seen the film once and I am ready to watch it again to find more hidden gems. Deadpool and Wolverine is currently in theaters around the world.
