It’s rumored that any MCU project set between AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY and SECRET WARS will have a shared setting.

At Comic-Con, we received the exciting announcement that our next two Avengers films will be titled Judgment Day AND Secret Warsand will be led by directors Jupiter AND Anthony Russowith Robert Downey Jr. playing the big bad, Doctor Doom.

The two films are currently scheduled for release in 2026 and 2027, respectively, and a new rumor is providing context for the MCU films that will take place between the two Avengers movies.

According to industry scooper Daniel Richtman (via CBM), this means that “Everything that comes out between Avengers 5 and 6 that isn’t a prequel will be set in Battleworld. If Spider-Man 4 is Battleworld, that would be a VERY interesting Spidey movie.”

This is potentially interesting news. For context, the source of the report states that in the original Secret Wars comic, The Beyonder took pieces from hundreds of worlds, including Earth, to create Battleworld, a planet he used as an “arena” for an epic battle between countless Marvel heroes and villains.

In the 2015 version of the story, a series of Incursions destroyed the Multiverse, leaving only Earth-616 and the Ultimate Universe standing. As those two worlds collided and exploded, Doctor Doom used the stolen powers of the Beyonders to create a new “Battleworld.”

This version was a patchwork world made up of the remnants of destroyed realities, and when the Multiverse was eventually restored, Marvel Comics combined several timelines into one (bringing popular characters like Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen to Earth-616).

It seems likely that this is how Marvel Studios will handle the MCU reboot, this time with the intention of giving the Fantastic Four and the X-Men a permanent home in the next “sacred timeline.”

Now it has also been said that Doctor Doom’s plan in Avengers: Judgment Day is to unify all the universes into one place (Battleworld), which he intends to rule.

The implications of this will likely be significant, even if there are only a couple of movies and TV shows released that year. However, it does allow Marvel Studios to better establish Battleworld ahead of Avengers: Secret WarsYou may recall that this was also the plan when the final variant of Kang was to be revealed as The Beyonder.

Sony Pictures is presumably eager to see another Multiversal Spiderman film and, while this isn’t the story we were expecting, a Battleworld story could be the perfect opportunity to reunite the three Spider-Men.

What do you think about this possibility?
