So, this is fun! Lama star Wesley Snipe recently shared the headline of an article on social media calling for Marvel Studios to cancel Mahershala Alireboot Blade in the MCU and bring him back.
Before continuing, I warn you that there are SPOILERS.
You see, Wesley Snipes actually reprises his role as Blade in Deadpool and Wolverine and there’s a hilarious line he says that makes the audience burst out laughing.
“There was only one Blade. There will always be only one Blade.”
Now it looks like Snipes is taking that line a little more seriously than he intended. But at the same time… I’d love to see Snipes continue playing Blade!
Snipes shared a comment with his post: “Yep, all crazy! hahaha.”
In the film, when Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) are sent into the Void by Mr. Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen), they discover that a group of Multiverse Variants have banded together to fight against Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin).
The team consists of Elektra (Jennifer Garner), X-23 (Dafne Keen), Gambit (Channing Tatum) and Blade, played once again by Snipes.
Now that Marvel Studios is developing a Blade movie with Ali set to take on the role in the MCU, I think most fans have realized that Snipes’ return was just a fun one-off.
Snipes was obviously having some fun with the post, and why wouldn’t he? But the comments show that many fans would rather see Snipes return as Blade again than be replaced by another actor.
Marvel Studios has had some trouble getting Ali’s Blade movie off the ground, with directors coming and going and one delay after another.
Speaking about this, Kevin Feige previously said: “Over the last few years, as we were trying to make that movie, the most important thing for us was not to rush it. And to make sure we made the right Blade movie.
“There were some great Blade movies years ago… they were all R-rated. So I think it’s inherent, like Deadpool, in the character of Blade.”
He added: “It’s part of the process. And when you have a famous character like Blade and a famous actor like Mahershala, everything that happens gets a lot of attention.
“I’m sure you’ve heard us talk about how we were struggling to find the perfect reason for Deadpool to exist, for the third Deadpool movie in the MCU, and then Hugh Jackman called, and everything fell into place.
“Sometimes you need that magical thing to just click into place. And sometimes it happens: Sometimes it takes a day. Sometimes it takes two years. Sometimes it takes 10 years. But that’s what you really should wait for, until you create something.”
Would you like to see Marvel continue to push for this version of Blade played by Mahershala Ali, or would you prefer Snipes to return to the character?
