BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER Harley Quinn Actress Talks Creating New Version of Character

Bruce TimBatman: Caped Crusader is a bold new vision for the Dark Knight that proposes solutions unlike anything we’ve seen before.

One of the biggest changes in Batman lore is Dr. Harleen Quinzel’s, aka Harley Quinn’s, take on the Dark Knight. This version of the character, played by My Friend Jamie Chungis a prominent therapist in Gotham City, whose main clientele consists of the rich and powerful… including Bruce Wayne.

It’s really interesting because Dr. Quinzel works as Harley Quinn and uses her career as a therapist for nefarious purposes. I won’t spoil it for you if you haven’t watched the series yet.

During an interview with GamesRadar+, Chung talked about creating this new version of the character and said it was exciting to “flip the switch” and have the ability to create a Joker-less Harley.

She explained: “I love that it’s a feminist role, you could say… her pure existence doesn’t evolve around a man. I think they really switched gears with that, but I also love the origin story of her becoming a psychiatrist, learning the ins and outs.

“You get to understand why she does this job: she wants to use and take all that information to manipulate her clients. She’s the Robin Hood of Gotham, she takes from the rich and gives to herself, she doesn’t need a sugar daddy, she just screws all these people. She’s my hero!”

When asked about the future of the series and her character, Chung said, “I can tell you what happens. They meet on Raya, she swipes right, they go on this date… I’m kidding!

“No, I don’t know if the characters will ever meet in this series or what will happen in season two, but I don’t think they have anything to do with each other without giving anything away. But I sure hope so.

“I’ve been asked to do an episode for season two so far, so I’m really hoping that the two things collide, and then she dumps him and he starts this downward spiral.”

The series description reads: “Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals are rampant, and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear.

“Forged in the fires of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something more and less than human: BATMAN. His single-handed crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions have deadly and unforeseen ramifications.”

Timm previously explained that this series is set in the very early years of Batman’s crime-fighting career: “Batman is so early in his career that in the first episode he’s still an urban legend.”

He continued saying: “It is not Year One,” referring to the Frank Miller AND David Mazzucchelli Batman source comic. “It’s more like ‘Second Week.'”

Timm added: “I wanted to make it a little weird and creepy. If you’re stuck in a room with Batman, whether you’re Commissioner Gordon or Barbara Gordon or Renee Montoya, you don’t feel comfortable. You’re like, ‘What is this guy? What is he about?'”

The cast includes Hamish Linklater (Midnight snack) like Batman, Christina Ricci as Selina Kyle / Catwoman, and former voice actress of Batman Diedrich Bader will play Harvey Dent / Two-Face.

Other cast members include Minnie the driver, Eric Morgan Stuart, Michelle C. Bonilla, Krystal Joy Brown, John DiMaggio, Grace McKenna, Written by Jason Watkins, Paul Scheer, Answers, by Gary Anthony Williams, Dan Donohue, David Krumholtz, Haley Joel OsmentAND Toby Stephen.

This animated series has been in development for some time with Timm, J.J. Abrams, Mattia Reevesand comic book writer And Brubaker leading the charge.
