SPIDER-NOIR: Character Analysis Reveals New Details About Nicolas Cage’s Marvel Series

Thanks to Hollywood scooper Daniel Richtman, we have some character analyses from the Prim Video series that offer further insights into the series.

It was previously reported that the series would follow an “aging, down-on-his-luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, forced to confront his past life as the city’s only superhero.”

It was also revealed that Spider-Noir will not be Peter Parker, but Ben Reilly. “Amazon Prime is ready to take a new spin on the Spider-Man franchise with its next show. Breaking with tradition, this series will star Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, instead of the iconic Peter Parker.”

The series synopsis states that Spider-Noir will face Silvio Manfredi, aka Silvermane, and Yuri Watanabe, aka Wraith.

The synopsis reads: “We follow Ben Reilly, a private investigator, as he stumbles down the rabbit hole of corruption in 1933 New York City, while uncovering his past as a superhero.

“Reilly investigates the death of Edward Addison, which leads him to discover that the mayor is up to no good involving crime boss Silvermane and femme fatale Yuri Watanabe.”

As for new details, here’s a breakdown of each of the characters:

Italian:

A retired superhero with the powers of Spider-Man who is too old and broken, both figuratively and literally, to wear the costume as he once did. Instead, he takes on cases from low-level private investigators and stays away from those involving high-profile names, like the mayor.

Through flashbacks, we learn about his heroic pasts and the past failures that led him to this point. He’s charming, but scarred, and the pilot does a great job of setting him up for a good character arc moving forward.

Yuri Watanabe:

A stage singer with unknown ties to New York City’s criminal organizations, including the mayor’s. Her character exists entirely through Ben Reilly’s eyes in the pilot, but there’s a larger, more interesting story unfolding for her on the page.

Flint Marko, aka Sandman:

A hired thug who works for Yuri, but has an unknown condition that causes him to transform into Sandman. When he changes identities, he has no memory of what his alter ego did while in charge. It looks like a good portion of the story will revolve around him, and there is a lot of potential for this character to become a fan favorite.

Robbie Robertson:

A reporter and friend of Ben Reilly. There isn’t much depth to the character in the pilot, but he has the potential to be a fan favorite if written in all its glory.

Mayor Delgado:

A corrupt politician whose motives and past are completely unknown. The character exists as a setup for future episodes, likely as the main villain.

Silver Mane:

An aging crime boss whose plans to retire are thrown out the window after his mansion burns down. He appears to be one of the other main antagonists of the series.

Hi, Janet!

Ben Reilly’s secretary/second in command. Think Joan from Mad Men.

Edward Addison:

A man who can set himself on fire without hurting himself, and one of the MacGuffins of the plot.

Delgado:

Another private investigator who has a good working relationship with Ben Reilly.

Cage will be the star along with Li Jun Li like Yuriko Watanabe, Lamorne Morris like Robbie Robertson, and Dr Brendan Gleeson in an as-yet-undisclosed role, but will most likely play Silvermane.

Spider Noir It is developed by Oren Uziel AND Steve Lightfootwho will also serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. They developed the series with the Inside the Spider-Man Universe team of Mr. Phil, Christopher MillerAND Amy Pascalall three will also serve as executive producers.

Harry Bradbeer will be executive producer and director of the first two episodes.
