As DC shows up at Comic-Con to promote some of its projects, James Gunn he doesn’t show up to promote his film SupermanEven though they shot the film and there’s a lot of material they could show, they don’t think it’s ready.
Gunn’s partner at DC studio, Peter Safranrecently spoke to The Wrap and provided an explanation as to why they decided to skip this year’s epic geek event.
Safran said: “From my perspective, it’s just too early. A year is a really long time for a campaign, and so from our perspective, I think we should be putting more effort and more effort into a shorter period, rather than stretching it out. That’s our instinct.”
While the film side of DC Studios won’t be featured, they will be showing things for The Penguin and, perhaps, hopefully, Commando Creaturesan animated series that represents the first official launch of the new DC universe.
Safran also said that while Superman is very close to completion, Gunn has not yet finished shooting the film.
He continued: “James is not done yet. I think when you first step foot in, for us, for our first live-action theatrical experience, there’s a lot of expectation around it.
“And we really have to make sure that we deliver every step of the way, but certainly first time. That’s why we chose not to be there.”
Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way of life, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as antiquated.”
Superman even the stars David Corenswet like Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan like Lois Lane; Nicholas Hoult like Lex Luthor; Nathan’s son like Green Lantern; Isabella Merced like Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; Maria Gabriella of Faria like Angela Spica, known as The Engineer; Sarah Sampaiolike Eve Teschmacher; and Terence Rosemore like Otis.
Superman will launch the theatrical portion of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It is scheduled for release on July 11, 2025.
