Ralph Fiennes Stars in Trailer for Dramatic Thriller CONCLAVE With John Lithgow, Stanley Tucci, and Isabella Rossellini

A new trailer has been released for Focus Features’ religious drama thriller Conclavestarring Stanley Tucci, Ralph Fiennes, John LithgowAND Isabella Rossellini.

Adapted from by Robert Harris novel, the film is set against the backdrop of the headquarters of the Catholic Church in the Vatican. The story, which unfolds over a few days, follows the unexpected death of the Pope and the efforts to choose a new one.

Fiennes plays Cardinal Lawrence, who is tasked with managing this centuries-old process. The film’s synopsis reads: “With the Catholic Church’s most powerful leaders from around the world gathered together in the halls of the Vatican, Lawrence finds himself at the centre of a conspiracy and uncovers a secret that could shake the very foundations of the Church.”

Tucci plays the progressive Cardinal Bellini who aims to secure the papacy, but faces stiff competition from Cardinal Tremblay of Lithgow. Rossellini plays Sister Agnes, whose role in the papal election is pivotal.

Sergio Castellitto (German Cardinal), Luciano Msamati (Cardinal Adeyemi), by Brian F. O’Byrne (O’Malley), and Carlos Diehz gather the supporting cast.

Academy Award Winner Edward Berger (All quiet on the western front) directs the film with a screenplay by Peter Straughan (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy). Composer Volker Bertelmann reunites with Berger to compose the film’s soundtrack. Stephane Fontaine (A prophet) is the director of photography of the film and Burn the salt‘S Suzie Davis he is the set designer.

Focus Features will release Conclave in limited release on November 1st and in wide release on November 8th. The film is also expected to screen at fall film festivals. Watch the trailer below:
