New documentary SHINE ON about Stanley Kubrick’s THE SHINING will reveal “the Holy Grail of film history”

Stanley Kubrickclassic 1980 horror film The brilliant is the subject of a new documentary titled Shine On: The Forgotten Place of Shining.

The news comes from Indiewire, which reports that the film is “certified by the Stanley Kubrick Film Archive and the family estate” and is said to “capture the location scouting and art direction for the Overlook Hotel at Elstree Studios.”

Michael Sheen narrates the documentary, “which includes interviews with The brilliant executive producer Gen Harlan, the sonartistic director The Tomkinsand Kubrick’s daughter Katharina Kubrickwho worked as a location scout for the film.”

Those involved will share their memories of the production and also revisit iconic studio locations.

The film was written and directed by Paul King, who said in a statement: “There have been so many rumors about some of the sets of The brilliant still exist at Elstree Studios, but finding them and walking around them was like discovering the Holy Grail of cinema history.”

Katharina Kubrick added: “The production of The brilliant It’s been well documented and analyzed, but this is a story that has never been told. Crucial scenes in the film took place in these areas, so going back there was like stepping into the film itself.”

The trailer for the documentary will be released on Friday, so stay tuned!
