A gripping trailer has been released for the indie drama Peace Stuff hero Jay will do it like the title character, and a fantastic ensemble cast that includes Oscar nominees Chiwetel Ejiofor AND Mary J. Bligeas well as Gbenga Akinnagbe, Michael Kelly, Winningham SeaAND Camila Cabello.
Ejiofor not only stars in the film, but also directed it and wrote the screenplay, based on the best-selling book The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace written by Jeff HobbsThis is Ejiofor’s second feature film as director after The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.
The film’s synopsis reads: “Robert Peace grew up in a poor neighborhood in Newark and later graduated from Yale with a degree in molecular biophysics and biochemistry while an undergraduate.
“Peace has lived a double life in academia and research, while also earning six figures selling marijuana. Based on the best-selling book by Jeff Hobbs. Chiwetel Ejiofor’s thoughtful adaptation of Hobbs’ biography examines Peace’s struggle to balance his academic ambitions with mounting financial and family pressures.
“Though his talent (Jay Will) has been nurtured since childhood by his devoted mother (Mary J. Blige), he lives in the shadow of his father (Ejiofor), who is imprisoned for a shady double murder.
“Intellectually curious and a restless entrepreneur, Peace lives a divided life, toiling away in a university research lab while secretly raising extra money for his father’s defense.”
It looks like a beautiful and captivating film, and I can’t wait to watch it. Check out the trailer below and watch Peace Stuff in select U.S. theaters on August 16.
