The Acolyte The series finale featured a lightsaber moment we’ve never seen before, and as you can imagine, it got fans talking all over the internet. Star Wars canon.
If you haven’t seen the final episode yet and want to avoid spoilers, it’s probably best to skip this part.
In the episode, we see Osha fall to the dark side after discovering the truth about her mother’s murder by the Jedi, after her former Master Sol admitted his wrongs but also tried to explain that he felt it was the right thing to do.
In a moment of emotional desperation, just before Sol tries to tell her that he loves her, Osha Force strangles him to death. As she does so, the kyber crystal in the lightsaber she is holding flashes red.
It didn’t seem entirely intentional, as she was feeling a very strong emotion. After killing Sol, Qimir went to comfort her and Osha lashed out with her lightsaber.
After the blade extended, it turned from blue to red as she watched in shock. This is known as bleeding a kyber crystal, which is when a Force user channels negative, dark emotions into a crystal to corrupt it, which is what makes the lightsaber red.
The first thing that came to mind while watching this was why didn’t Anakin’s lightsaber turn red when he went into Sith mode!? He willingly turned to the dark side, slaughtered a bunch of young padawans, and throughout the fight with Obi-Wan, his lightsaber remained blue.
So, I don’t really understand how Osha changed while she was in a dark state of emotional confusion. I don’t understand that, but visually it was beautiful.
This is the first time the process has been shown in live-action, and Star Wars fans are debating how it fits in Star Wars canon.
One fan says, “I’m glad they did it, but I wish it was more like how they did it in Jedi Survivor.” This is a reference to the moment Dagan Gera intentionally bled his kyber crystal while Cal Kestis watched.
Another said: “I like how it was shown in two different ways. One where it was a very deliberate action and one where the dark side became so strong that it just happened.”
This fan pointed out what I initially thought: “I personally wish it was more intentional: Anakin’s blade remained blue throughout Mustafar.”
Another interpretation is: “I liked both of them. I thought it was appropriate that there were still flashes of blue in the saber blade for a few seconds. It resembled her hesitation as she wondered if she was really going to fall.”
