Kevin Feige recently spoke about the R-rating of Deadpool and Wolverine calling it “the most wholesome R-rated film anyone will ever see.”
The creative team behind the film gave it their all, and Disney and Marvel supported the creative team’s vision, so nothing was really compromised during the development of the film.
It’s nice to know that the team behind the film was able to do what they wanted with all the Deadpool jokes, and while the film is rated R, I think it’s a family-friendly film.
During an interview with Deadline, Feige was asked if Deadpool & Wolverine represented “the beginning of a bolder era” for the MCU.
He responded: “I think we’ve been bold in the past, but my favorite thing is that we’re crossing all genres and tones. I think it gets a lot of attention that this is our first R-rated movie, but it’s the third R-rated Deadpool movie, so we wanted to stay true to what Ryan built in those last two movies and we weren’t going to ruin that.
He continued: “I will say that Hugh and Ryan have talked about it, and I think people can tell from the trailer and the press tour so far, yes, it’s R-rated, yes, there’s some language and blood, but the film is incredibly emotional.
He goes on to explain, “I still call it the most wholesome R-rated movie anyone could ever see. It’s really a celebration of friendship, family, and reunited family. I don’t want to overstate it, but despite all the R-rated vulgarity that’s grabbing people’s attention, when people see the movie, they’re going to focus on how heartfelt it is; much more so than the first two Deadpool movies, in my opinion.
“That’s what really excites me, once people get past the F-words and the 17-year-old rating, we’ll see how great it is.”
The film is set six years after the events of PersonagesWade has hung up his uniform, stopped dating Vanessa, and is working as a used car salesman.
While celebrating his birthday with friends, agents of the Time Variance Authority tear Wade from his reality and take him to meet their boss, Mr. Paradox, who informs Deadpool that a greater destiny awaits him.
This is the beginning of a great multiverse-time adventure as Wolverine finds himself having to face the villain Cassandra Nova.
The confirmed cast for the film also includes Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin AND Stefan Kapicic like Vanessa and Colossus, Matthew Macfadyen as a TVA agent, and Leslie Uggams like Blind Al.
They join them Brianna Hildebrand AND Shioli Kutsunawho will also return to the franchise as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Negasonic Teenage Warhead’s girlfriend, Yukio. It was previously confirmed that actress Jennifer Garner will return to the role of Electra in the film.
Deadpool and Wolverine will hit theaters on July 26th!
