A24 has released a behind-the-scenes look at its upcoming prison drama Sing SingThe film stars Colman Domingo as an inmate at Sing Sing Prison. The video features the cast and crew who offer insights into the story and the characters they play in the film.
In the film: “A theater company finds an escape from the reality of confinement through the creativity of staging a play in this film, based on a real-life rehabilitation program and featuring a cast that includes ex-convict actors…
“Every six months, the men gather in a circle of chairs, often looking at the Divine G (Colman Domingo) to help him decide his next play. When he recruits a new member named Divine Eye (Clarence Maclin), gets more than he bargained for.
“The group’s dynamic begins to change when Divine Eye suggests putting on a play for the first time, prompting the men to come up with a slew of crazy ideas, from pirate ships to Roman gladiators to Old West shootouts.
“Initially nervous, Divine G quickly begins to see Divine Eye’s discomfort with the vulnerability required for what seems like a foolish quest.
“As he plans his clemency hearing, he tries to bond with Eye, as the two men process the pain of their experience together, while experiencing the joy and escape of creativity.”
It looks like a fantastic movie, and it was directed by Greg Kwedar from a screenplay he wrote together Clint BentleyThe film is based on the real-life arts rehabilitation program at Sing Sing Prison in Ossining, New York.
Domingo is joined in the film by Clarence Maclin, Sean San Jose, Paul Raci, From Giraudy, Patrick Griffin, Jon Adrian Velasquez AND Dino Johnson.
The film is currently in theaters and is receiving great reviews.
