Kevin Smith recently shared a photo of a prop from his upcoming film Jay and Bob the Silent film. As you will see, the prop is heavily inspired by the Necronomicon from Sam Raimi’S evil Dead.
The photo is accompanied by a note describing what it is. It said: “Here is the NecronomiKev – The Book of the Dead Film Careers! Just kidding (sort of). It’s actually called The NecroBobicon!
“I commissioned [Nick Brown] (@thetomsavini School graduate) to unearth this ancient and evil tome featured in @jayandsilentbob’s new film. @jaymewes and I will start filming later this year.
“The NecroBobicon will not devour your soul, but legend has it that misuse of the book will leave the reader forever silent…”
It’s a lot of fun and it will be interesting to see how it fits into the story Smith wants to tell.
Smith previously spoke about the project, saying, “I’m writing another Jay and Silent Bob movie. I honestly didn’t think I’d be doing it for… we were planning on doing the third Jay and Silent Bob movie when Jay’s daughter Logan turned 18, and she could play Harley’s daughter in the movie.
“Harley played Jay’s daughter in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, so Logan was going to play Jay’s granddaughter, and we thought that would be fucked up. But Mewes was like, ‘So I have to wait ten years to do another movie?’ So I was like, ‘I guess you’re right,’ so I started thinking about this thing and started writing it, and I fucking loved it.
“I’m writing it the same way I wrote Red State… whenever I know where the movie is going, it means the audience knows where the movie is going, and because it’s a Jay and Silent Bob movie, and… I don’t know, 18… the audience probably knows where a lot of the movie is going.
“Whenever I feel like that, I just flip it around and write something completely different. Whenever I know what the punchline is, I force myself to come up with a different punchline to weaken it and stuff like that. So I use it as an exercise in sharpening the comedic knives, if you will.”
It is not known when Jay and the Silent Bob 3 will start production or when will it be released. Smith’s next film is The 4:30 Movie and will be released later this year.
