Animation studio Laika is set to produce a new live-action original film titled Collapse with the producers Mr. Phil AND Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse).
The film’s script comes from Brian Duffield (Spontaneous, no one will save you), who is also expected to direct the film.
The film tells the story of “a married couple who embark on a journey around the world to find a cure for an ancient curse.” That’s all we know about the story, but it looks like it could make a great adventure film.
Duffield said in a statement: “I will never forget seeing Coraline at the premiere at the AMC Burbank 16 and I was wondering who these fantastic new geniuses were.
“I can’t wait to make a film with them and hope to live up to their reputation, and I couldn’t be more excited to start a new adventure with my friends at Lord Miller.”
Matt LevinLaika’s president of live-action film and series, said in a statement: “We are thrilled to be collaborating with Brian and the entire Lord Miller team on this special film.
“Brian has such a unique voice, and Collapse perfectly embodies the bold, emotional and creative storytelling that we at Laika champion.
“Lord Miller is one of a kind and we couldn’t ask for a better creative team to bring this story to life.”
Laika is behind films like Coraline, Paranorman, and Kubo and the Two Strings, and is looking to get into live-action gaming. This expansion already includes an upcoming adaptation of the action thriller novel Seventeen by John Brownlow.
