Review: DADDIO is a touching story about the bond between two strangers

The film Dad It’s a movie about a taxi driver named Clark (Sean Penn), who takes a woman (Dakota Johnson) from New York’s JFK Airport and drives her home to Manhattan.

The journey is interrupted when the couple gets into an accident that closes the highway until it is moved from the only available lane. Penn and Johnson’s characters chat playfully about their lives, with Penn’s Clark guessing details about the woman’s love life and past based on the information she is giving him.

He is direct and honest, sometimes unpleasantly so, but never so unpleasant that she doesn’t want to defer the conversation to him.

They slowly peel back the layers of their lives, revealing past wounds, future hopes, and a deep connection to another human being that was unlikely for either of them.

The film was written and directed by Christy Hallin his directorial debut, after creating and writing the Netflix series I’m not happy with thisHe has also adapted the screenplays for the upcoming highly anticipated films based on the novels. It ends with us AND The Husband’s Secretboth played by Blake Lively.

Hall clearly has a knack for writing characters that feel real and believable. Penn’s Clark and Johnson’s “Girlie,” as she’s described on the film’s IMDb, are flawed and complicated, but so honest in their search for kindness toward one another.

Dad It was like an intimate look inside a real 90-minute road trip, ending with a real connection between two people who were able to look at each other and see the bigger picture, and offer grace to the wounded parts and love to the rest.

Dad is currently showing in theaters.
