Viggo Mortenson Discusses Playing Aragorn in THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum director Andy Serkis has recently piqued attention with some characters from the original Lord of the Rings the films “could return” for the film. Fans are wondering if one of those characters will be Viggo Mortensenof Aragorn.

Mortensen has previously stated that he would be open to reprising the role, and recently discussed in more detail what it would take for him to do so.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mortensen said, “I haven’t read a script. So I don’t know. The script is the most important thing to me, unless I’m broke and I have no money and I’m lucky to get a job. So it depends.”

When asked how often he chooses a project to raise money, he replied, “I’ve been lucky lately, but not so much lately.”

The actor previously said: “I love playing that character. I learned a lot from playing it. I really enjoyed it. I would only do it if I was right for that character in terms of, you know, the age I am now and so on. I would only do it if I was right for that character. It would be silly to do it otherwise.”

Speaking about why they tell this story, Jackson said: “The character of Gollum/Sméagol has always fascinated me because Gollum reflects the worst of human nature, while his Sméagol side is, supposedly, quite sympathetic.

“I think he resonates with readers and movie audiences because there’s a little bit of both in all of us. We really want to explore his backstory and delve into parts of his journey that we haven’t had time to touch on in the previous films.

“It’s too early to know who will cross his path, but suffice it to say that we’ll be taking a cue from Professor Tolkien.”

I’m really curious to see this movie and I hope the story and direction are as good as the original trilogy.
